Felix Gonzalez-Torres

In November of 2005, I put up what is now the first exhibit in the Portable Museum. It was a retrospective of the work of Felix Gonzalez-Torres, 'hung' on a MUNI bus shelter on Judah and 46th Avenue.
This is the curatorial statement:
Untitled, 1991

Untitled (North), 1993

Untitled (Portrait of Dad), 1991
Untitled (Bed), 1991

Untitled (Perfect Lovers), 1987-1990

Welcome to the Portable Museum

Hello and welcome to a new idea in exhibiting art.

This idea stemmed from an Assignment from the website, http://www.learningtoloveyou.more. The assignment was to post an artist retrospective in a public place. I chose to do a retrospective on Felix Gonzalez-Torres, an immensely talented artist, on the walls of a San Francisco bus shelter.

I found the making of this assignment to be wildly fulfilling as it allowed me to be a guerrilla curator in a way. So, I decided to keep going and continue to curate artist retrospectives and post them online.

I welcome any other participants to take on this project in other cities. The goal is to create more awareness about art in a fun, daring way.
